What My Doctor Said About Natural Hair Growth Vitamins
I started researching the best vitamin for hair growth by visiting my doctor. He told me that my condition was a common form of alopecia, or pattern baldness. Pattern baldness usually begins around age 30. It is caused in part by the hormone DHT, a derivative of testosterone that attaches to the hair follicles. DHT inhibits the follicles from producing hair at the rate they previously did. The hair begins to thin, and in some cases hair growth can completely stop over large parts of the scalp.
My doctor also said that there were prescription and over-the-counter medications that were commonly used to treat alopecia. The most common treatment is minoxidil, which is commonly associated with the Rogaine brand. It is effective, but there are also side effects.
One of the most common side effects of minoxidil is an irritated, itchy or scaly scalp. Also, once you start using minoxidil you can expect to lose much more of your hair during the first phase. After you hair begins to grow back and come in fuller, you have to continue using minoxidil or the effects of DHT will take over again.

Biotin for hair growth is generally safe even in very high doses, but it is not recommended for pregnant or breast feeding mothers.
